This year, the Education Team are running a series of Network Events for our fantastic Skills Leaders across the UK. Each session focuses on a different theme, and offers the opportunity to share insights and examples of best practice from across the Partnership.
In our first, we shared practical ideas for how to measure essential skills and track impact.
Our Head of Education, Evelyn Haywood, introduced us to the six principles of best practice (including ‘measure it’), explained why we should keep track of progress, and guided us towards Skills Builder Hub and Skills Builder Benchmark as valuable tools for developing and measuring essential skills.
She was joined by Adam Judson, from The Ashington Learning Partnership Trust. He is the Skills Leader at Central & Bothal Primary Schools - two large primary schools in North Northumberland. He explained the impact of measuring essential skills at his schools and the importance of essential skills to students’ future success in employment. Adam talked through practical strategies that have worked in his schools, and how teachers are supported to use regular formative assessments. Last year, Central & Bothal Primary Schools received Flagship Status in recognition of their best practice approach to teaching and measuring essential skills among students.
Listen to Adam by catching up on the webinar below. It’s timestamped so you can jump to the bits you’re most interested in.
If you’re also interested in purchasing our Handbook for Educators as Evelyn mentioned, complete with tips and practical advice for teaching essential skills in the classroom, then the purchasing link is available here.
