Space Studio is a STEM school based in West London. I have used, and continue to use, the Skills Builder framework with a small number of students that would benefit from a different approach.
Overall impact
The overall impact of the Accellerator programme has been successful. The students have grown in confidence and been able to demonstrate how the 8 skills can be used in all situations. The highlight of the programme was the students recognising their own progress and growth.
Keep it simple
By using the skills in discussions and how they fit in to everyday life and tasks, the students begin to develop these naturally and use them to benefit not only their studies, but life outside of school.

Skills Builder has been used with Year 12 students.
Measure it
I have used Skills Builder alongside the Aspirations Employability Diploma which is designed to prepare students for the working world. An example of how developing the 8 skills has been useful to the students would be their presentation skills. They have developed all the skills needed to deliver a successful presentation, and more importantly feel confident to do so.
Focus tightly
I have found the videos and activities useful. We went back to basics and started with the lower level tasks. At times the students felt these tasks were not age appropriate. However, when I looked back at the essential skills questionnaire after 6 months of using Skills Builder terminology, the progress was tremendous.
Keep practising
Students have lots of opportunities to practice these skills through project based learning and through the huge range of extra curricular opportunities.
Bring it to life
We have demonstrated how these skills are an important part of life through role play, team projects, individual projects and by inviting guest speakers into Space Studio.
What's next
I will continue to use Skills Builder with small groups of students and recognise their success.
