Higgins Partnerships are proud of our work experience programme that we developed together with the Skills Builder Partnership, along with the progress our candidates have made during their placements and the skills they have gained. As an industry, we must continue to work with organisations such as Skills Builder to showcase the diverse opportunities within the Construction Industry and empower and encourage young people to build essential skills that will shape their future careers.

What did Higgins Partnerships do on a Skills Builder Employer Programme?

Developed a work placement programme to build a talent pipeline within the organisation

To provide interested candidates of all ages (18+) with the opportunity to gain insight into the construction industry, the roles available, and the skills required

Taught participants to reflect on, and articulate, the essential skills required across the work placement programme

To enable participants to understand what their strengths and areas for development are, and communicate these effectively

Create a positive volunteering culture that emphasises the value of essential skills in the workplace

To make the essential skills more tangible for young people, by providing them with real-world examples of how these skills are applied in the workplace

What was the impact?

Since 2022, 30 candidates have completed our work experience programme.

Three candidates gained employment opportunities on our projects following their work experience placement

In 2024, candidates made a marked improvement in their Speaking, Listening and Teamwork skills following the work experience placement (based on data from Skills Builder Benchmark: Speaking = +7.60%, Listening = +9.21% and Teamwork = +7.09%)
