Be Curious Weekend is Potential Plus UK’s annual event for children with high learning potential (also known as ‘high ability’, ‘gifted’, ‘more able’) and their parents. The event offers young people the chance to take part in activities with like-minded peers, creates a sense of belonging, reduces feelings of isolation and helps maintain positive mental health. For parents it gives them the opportunity to meet with other families who ‘get’ their child and understand their experiences. These children often face asynchronous development or have an additional learning difference, which can lead to social and emotional challenges. Developing essential skills is vital to help these children build confidence, improve communication and foster resilience, skills crucial for leading a successful life.

Be Curious Weekend features 14 activities linked to essential skills, providing a scaffold for practising essential skills steps. As confidence grows, participants can identify their own focus skill opportunities. An evaluation station, designed to make reflection fun and accessible, offers opportunities for self-reflection on skill development before and after activities.
