Programmes at Active Learning Centres integrate the Skills Builder Framework, ensuring students’ progress in the 8 Essential Skills through carefully designed activities.

At each of the three Active Learning Centres, covering woodlands, coast and mountains, the team creates carefully designed residential outdoor learning and activity programmes that are tailored to meet the specific needs of each group, ensuring relevant and impactful learning outcomes that can boost students’ development across the 8 Essential Skills areas. Skills professional instructors will guide students through each activity, while ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

Feedback from numerous schools show that the programmes have had positive effects on students’ personal, academic and essential skills development. All activities are designed to give opportunities for review and reflection, so that students build their confidence and skills through their stay - be it a one-day course or a 5-day residential.

The team at each Active Learning Centre is very happy to work with teachers to design a programme that focuses on one or more of the essential skills - and can adapt as pupils progress through a visit.
