Power, Investigation, Explore is a sustained programme aimed at underrepresented groups in Y8-Y10 (care experienced, young carers and disabled students). The programme sits under the umbrella of the Go Further Go Higher programme which aims to develop young peoples knowledge, skills and confidence in relation to higher education progression and decision making.

  • P = Power – empowering students with soft and transferrable skills, and the confidence that higher education is an option for them.
  • I = Investigation – equipping students with the knowledge and skills to investigate and understand their options through subject taster sessions.
  • E = Explore – helping students explore what higher education institutions offer (facilities, social, extracurricular elements, and support).

Skills identification and development is embedded into all activities. A pre- and post-programme survey assesses the impact of the programme on participants. A reflective journal is completed after every session by participants where they reflect on the essential skill steps they have developed during the session and how they may apply these skills in the future.

The essential skills icons are used in presentations and the reflective journals.
