New staff members at the organisation are frequently employees with no work history. As such, making the jump from education to work can be difficult so Hope in Haringey are using the Essential Skills to form a development programme that prepares them for work and supports their Leadership skills so they are prepared to be independent and reliable team members.
The Essential Skills and skill steps are a focal point of the organisation's internal team one-to-ones, using specific skills to give each meeting an intention. Meetings close with the manager and team member agreeing to work towards evidencing a skill step at work in the weeks ahead.
Team members are frequently assessed using Benchmark at monthly intervals, allowing them to self-assess against the criteria and identifying with the team their strengths and weaknesses in relation to the Essential Skills and skill steps.
